The England Odyssey Part Three: Edinburgh and the Little House on the Hill

Edinburgh is just across the border in Scotland and is what you expect a major Scotish city to look like: old, classic, anything but rectilinear street layout with history oozing out of every cobblestone. We saw our first, and only light drizzle of the trip and, for some reason, I didn't take as many pictures asI should have. This is partially true because, when we got up on top, into the castle, they wouldn't let pictures be taken of things like their royal jewels. Of course, that's easy to understand, since we might be casing the joint for a heist. Right, I'm going to try to break into a vault, in a building, that's inside a wall, which is, itself, inside another wall and both of them are perched on the top of a nearly vertical hill....yeah, Pierce Brosnan could do it.

The climb up the hill is, indeed, a climb, but I survived it without requiring CPR from a total stranger, so everyone else can too.

Edin Castle
This is shot from street level in Edinburgh, which is a major city. To say the castle complex dominates the city downtown is an understatement.
The hill the castle is on is surrounded by the old town, which, might as well be the entire city. There are modern buildings, but they are definitely in the minority. Click Here.

Just about on the top of the hill, inside the outer walls and winding around to the main entrance. Click Here.
Coming around the turn to the Castle entrance tne the inner wall. This is four or five shots and the gray spots are rain, what else? Click Here.
Court yard. The building straight ahead holds the Scottish crown jewels, which they wouldn't allow to be photographed. Too bad as they were classic, with a great story behind them. Click Here. Veteran's memorial just outside the courtyard on the top of the hill. Everywhere we looked during the trip were memorials to their veterans. It was very touching. Click Here.
